A client approached me a couple of days ago. He has concerns in regards to his boss. He describes him as a very controlling and passive-aggressive individual. My client is a high-powered professional with outstanding organizational skills.
Like so many professionals in the business world my client is disappointed with his superior and felts he obtains no support and recognition. This is demoralizing and not only effects his motivation but also his well-being.
A brief suggestion: "A step backward gives you the advantage."
Remember this Zen proverb when in "professional distress over your boss." It will help you a) to step back, be cool, calm, and collected b) ponder not rush your next step, c) convert negative energy into motivation: How? Well, it's a gentle reminder to mind your own business realizing that you may not want to work for somebody else your entire life. Hence your boss may indirectly be a strong motivator for you to mind your own business... to start investing in yourself. Don't quit! Just set your own priorities and plan your future.

I have a manager who micro-manage. Therefore, the manager watches every move of his/her employees. Due to this style of managing, the moral is low in the department. I have become very bitter, but now I am taking a stand at work. Finally, I dictate to my manger my motives/wishes without questions asked. On the other hand, as a woman, I want to know if I am overly aggressive. Is it o.k. to experience fear, anxiety, and anger? Or Should I leave and follow my dreams! I am tired of the job!
Hi,
Thanks for your message. It seems you are having a hard time at your job. First of all, are you tired of your job or tired of your supervisor, or both?
Next, good for you, it seems you are taking a stance with your boss. Interesting you are bringing up the intersection of gender, gender role, and societal expectations. It's okay to be assertive as a woman and it is normative to experience anxiety when we are at the verge of change, are you?
Dr.D.
